I LOVE NY!

I recently traveled to New York City to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Being the lady that I am, I won’t mention her age, but it rhymes with “dirty.” Anyway, since it was going to be a girls trip and I wouldn’t have my hubby around to carry my gear like I often do when I travel, AND inspired by fellow photographer/friend Jose, who made me travel to Florence, Italy with only one camera, I decided to live on the edge and only bring my medium format Contax 645.

I quite like the results. I’ve recently decided that New York replaces Barcelona as my favorite city in the whole entire world. I really do love NYC and I’m already plotting and planning how I can go back as soon as possible. If anyone who lives in NYC is reading this, by chance, please contact me because I have a few plans in the works and I’d love to chat.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the film results. The heat must’ve gotten to me, because a lot of my film was out of focus (perhaps I shouldn’t manual focus while wearing sunglasses), but I don’t even care… sometimes I like the look of soft film. Enjoy!

ISTANBUL, TURKEY | TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY

While my hubby and I were visiting the motherland in May, we had a chance to road trip over the Turkey for a few days. Every time we go to Bulgaria, we try to visit a bordering country and for years I’ve been wanting to visit Istanbul. It did not disappoint. Istanbul is one of the most interesting places I have ever visited. Turkey is predominantly a Muslim country (a new experience for us) and although we spent most of our time on the European side of Turkey, it’s very unlike any other part of Europe that we’ve ever seen. It’s a mix of east and west, and a very bustling, cosmopolitan city. I loved seeing witnessing the Call to Prayer every afternoon, a blast of song throughout literally the entire city, where all of the men duck into the mosques or pray in the streets. Although I know very little about the Muslim religion, I admire their devotion. Plus, Istanbul is the city that divides Turkey. We drove from Europe to Asia- how cool is that? There was literally a “Welcome to Asia”/”Welcome to Europe” sign as you cross the bridge that connects the two continents.

This set of images is quite different from those I captured in Bulgaria. Kinda funny how that turned out! Turkey was more vibrant and colorful and I think I captured it in a different way as a passerby, whereas I’ve been to Bulgaria many times and I’m starting to see a different side of it. Anyway, enjoy a brief visual of Turkey and please leave a comment to let me know what you think!:-)
